Attention-Deficit / Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) in First Responders
When most people think about the mental health diagnoses of first responders they usually think of depression, anxiety, PTSD, and alcohol addiction. Though each is possible, each is roughly four times more likely when the first responder already had ADHD. To compound this, if the first responder had ADHD and then developed another mental disorder, the chance of self-harm is dramatically larger than each separately. Recognizing and aiding ADHD in first responders is vital, especially as ADHD is two to four times more prevalent than in civilian populations.
