Broken Trust, Lasting Strength: Healing from Organizational Betrayal
Organizational betrayal occurs when the agency, department, or leaders that officers expect to protect and support them instead create experiences of disappointment, abandonment, unfairness, or broken trust. For many first responders, the greatest emotional wounds do not come from traumatic calls, they come from feeling unsupported by the very organization they have dedicated their lives to serving.
Organizational betrayal occurs in some way or another within each organization. While it is wrong, it’s important to remember it does not define you. Your identity is not found in your job or the people you work with. It is also not based on your circumstances.
In this course, Ashley Wright, a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor, owner of Valor Counseling Center which specializes in first responders, and the spouse of a law enforcement officer with 16 years of service, offers hope and practical strategies for navigating organizational challenges. As a spouse and therapist, she has seen firsthand the hardship organizational betrayal causes. Participants will learn how to step back, gain perspective, and focus on what they can control even when facing difficult circumstances beyond their influence. There is a way to get through it!
Key Takeaway Points:
Defining organizational betrayal and recognize its impact.
Understanding why organizational betrayal often hurts more than critical incidents.
Identifying common emotional, physical, and relational responses.
Learning healthy ways to process betrayal without becoming cynical or emotionally detached.
Developing practical strategies to rebuild resilience, purpose, and trust.
