About the event

Many first responders think we are the conscious captains of our fate. We begin each day making deliberate high-level choices while viewing our lives as a series of independent decisions. However, the neurological facts are far less romantic.

  • Researcher at Duke University reported that 45% of our daily behaviors are not conscious decisions at all, rather automated habits and sub-conscious routines.

  • We are walking-talking collections of our neural routines and daily habits.

  • Habits are a set of automatic unconscious thoughts, behaviors and emotions that develop through repetition and time.

  • For the most part you keep creating the same life as you go through the same series of daily routine habits, emotions and behaviors.

  • The stronger the emotional reaction you have to some perception or event in your life the more you pay attention to the perceived cause. Your brain takes a snapshot and that’s called a memory and long-term memories are created from very highly emotional experiences.

  • If you allow that emotional reaction to last for hours or days, that becomes a mood.

  • If you allow this emotional reaction to continue for weeks or months it can develop into a temperament.

  • If you continue with the same emotional reaction for years it manifests into personality traits and disorders.

By the age of twenty, 95% of who we are, or our conscious self is a memorized set of behaviors, emotional reactions unconscious habits, hard-wired attitudes, cognitive beliefs and perceptions that operate like a computer program. It is nearly impossible with the remaining 5% of our conscious self to say I want to be healthy, happy, or free because your body’s operating system is on a different software program. Dr. Krawczyn will discuss how to change your moods into healthy habits and regain control over your software.
